A central part of the proposals is the restoration and reuse of the site’s historic buildings.
Important Listed Buildings including the Masonic Hall, Avenue Hall / 12-14 Garfield Street and 41-51 Royal Avenue will be carefully restored as part of the development. The North Street Arcade entrances on North Street and Donegall Street will be retained and restored.
The proposals aim to celebrate the area’s rich heritage while creating new opportunities for people to live, work, visit and spend time in this part of Belfast. Investment in these historic buildings will safeguard an important part of the Cathedral Quarter’s character for future generations.

Historic façades and key architectural features will
be carefully retained and restored.
New buildings will be designed to complement, rather than imitate, the historic architecture.
The historic façades will remain prominent features within the development and will help define the character of new streets and public spaces.
The integration of old and new architecture creates a development that is rooted in Belfast’s heritage while looking confidently to the future.
Bringing historic buildings back into active use will help secure their long-term conservation and maintenance.
